I disagree. I have been a customer of the Alpine Shop for years. The offer great customer service and I would challenge anyone to find a single item in their store that anyone in town has for cheaper! People think it more expensive because of the quality of service.
I also disagree with the high price review. I have been an outdoorsman for about 15 years. I have found that the Alpine Shop carries the high quality, high tech equipment, and therefore, seems higher than big box stores (where they don't even offer the high tech things). Big Box is great for general merchandise, like you need "a" jacket, or just "raingear". But once you investigate which products work, and which don't.. which ones are a waste of your money, and which ones are worth paying extra for... you'll find yourself at the Alpine Shop.
I would also contend the "their stuff is pricey" opinion. Walking in off the street, one could get this opinion. But if you're the kind of person that follows the brands Apline Shop carries (i.e. Patagoina, North Face, Horny Toad), you'll notice that the prices on specific products at Alpine Shop are consistant with the brand websites and most other major retailers (EMS, REI, etc.).
