I have always loved the food and ambiance at this restaurant...in fact my wedding reception was held at Port Cape. Unfortunately, though, lately things have gone down hill especially during the lunch hour. My friends from work and I have gone down there several times over the last year or two for birthday lunches, etc, and it always ends up being a 1.5 + hour ordeal...sometimes 2 hours. There is usually only people at 2 or 3 other tables in the non smoking (not the bar area)...and it STILL takes that long. We have decided to never go there again just because it takes too long...I mean who can be away from work for 2 hour lunches???? My friend was there Friday with 4 friends, again not many people there, and it took over an hour and a half. When my friend asked to speak to the manager, she was told that the manager was too busy to talk to her. So she said she would NEVER go back there. It is such a shame too...because the food is great.

I find this review quite amusing. If the Friday you are referring to was the 18th of September, then your friend is quite inaccurate as to the state of things at Port Cape that day. I was also eating lunch at Port Cape that day, and I too had a little longer lunch than I had planned. HOWEVER - there were nearly 30 people in the main dining room at lunch that day, as well as several more in the bar area. I do recall a table of 5 people who seemed to be disgruntled, who I can only assume were your friends since there was only one table of 5 people. In addition to their table of 5, there were also a table of 8, table of 3, table of 4, two tables of 2, a table of one, and my own table of two. I know there were at least two tables in the bar, but I'm not sure how many people were at them. I know that there were TWO waitresses that day, as well as a host who was helping them. The events that I observed were that the two waitresses and the host made sure that everyone's drinks were full, plates were cleared, and food was brought out as soon as it was ready. I think that's about all the service staff CAN do - they can't go back to the kitchen, kick out the cooks, and cook their next order just because someone is in a hurry. And, people, let's be reasonable - on a FRIDAY afternoon, with a fairly full dining room, and a restaurant whose kitchen is not only serving the dining room but preparing several deliveries at the same time, who can NOT expect to wait a while? I had to wait for my food, but it was hot and good when I got it, which is more than I can say for some restaurants in town. The waitresses were VERY busy that day - no one was standing around twiddling their thumbs. And I find it INCREDIBLY difficult to believe that upon asking to speak to the manager your friend would have been told that the manager was "too busy to talk to her". I would imagine that she was told the manager was occupied at the moment but would be available later in the afternoon if she would like to speak with her then...O MY GOD!!! A manager who maybe has managerial things to attend to, but would be willing to meet with someone later!! Shocking. I am sorry to hear that your friend did not have a good experience, but I think that people need to take a moment to look around and understand what is going on. If food is taking a while, ask the waitress or the host if something big is happening today. It may be that the kitchen is just being slow...or you may find out that the kitchen is in fact swamped with orders. Just because you can't see all of the activities doesn't mean they aren't happening. Also, you may consider asking your waitress what would be the quickest thing to order - some things take longer to cook than others....For example, if someone orders a steak well done, and a second table orders just a salad, the second table is going to get their order first even though they ordered second. It has been my experience that if things are slow - at any restaurant, there is always a reason. One other thing - on the subject of the length of lunch breaks. Good food has to be cooked. Cooked and prepared well for the customers who are waiting to eat it. Port Cape is a SIT-DOWN restaurant. Sit-down restaurants generally do take longer to eat at. If someone is wanting in and out in short amount of time (especially on a Friday) - go to Mc Donalds. Port Cape - you rock, I love eating with you, and I'm sorry that some people just don't seem to get it.

    To Doc and Abby,
I want everyone out there to know what a fabulous place you have and what wonderful people you have working for you.All of your waitstaff are very professional and work very hard. We just had our Granddaughters wedding reception upstairs and I could not have worked with anyone more organized or helpful than Abby. When I needed anything, she was there to deliver and when a problem arose she found a solution immediately...It was great!! Kudo's to Adam our bartender for the night, he was awesome....Dont hesitate to book at Port Cape. We could not have been happier.......Everyone had told us how good the food was, but you must experience it for yourself......Thanks for making our evening a wonderful Memory!
