Last evening my wife and I treated our daughter for her 38 birthday and she picked the Savoy! Must say, with all the fine eateryâs now blanketing the city, we had forgotten all the great dining experiences shared in the past at your elegant and historical landmark restaurant. Nothing much has changed and I am glad. Just for the sake of change, wonderful atmosphere, gracious hospitality and fabulous foods should be left alone!
We were pleasantly greeted by Mr. Garris and then introduced to our outstanding wait person, Michael Maloney. With a pleasant smile, he took our drink orders and served them promptly with a generous pour. (I am a real stickler for prompt drinks and generous pours.)
The Lobster bisque and a chilled bottle of Austi was an outstanding starter. The salad plates were well chilled with a beautiful presentation of mixed greens a plenty of blue cheese crumbles. (Only wished I would have seen the table side Caesar Salad on the menu first. O well, next time for sure!)
My wife was very pleased with the seafood medley of sea scallops, halibut, and salmon.
With Michaelâs suggestion and under his keen eye for copious details, my daughter and I both ordered the top sirloin strip steak with cognac and red wine sauce, accompanied with a very nice sized lobster tail, already removed from the shell by Sir Michael. The large, loaded baked potatoes were piping hot and Michael added his own touch, topping them with plenty of delicious and fresh, blue cheese crumbles.
The wine list was a bit pricy but well pleased with your extensive varietals of fine vino. Although the 2005 Geyserville Ridge Zin was a bit too warm for our taste, after Michael chilled it and allowed it to breath, it opened up to a full bodied bouquet of beauty. (All our wines are cellared at 58*)
For desert I had the raspberry crème briolette with Reme XO and the ladies had the cheese cake with Baileyâs and rocks.
Please be assured, we will not wait so long for our return! With all the outstanding restaurant choices in Kansas City, the Savoy continues to be a standout for a fabulous dining experience.
I was from out of town visting KC and accidentally found this restaurant. Saw the sign on the road and thought it was a small place to get a burger. The service is A+. The food was really good to, including the cinnamon rolls. The only complaint I had was the price. I guess if you are expecting more than a burger it is not bad. The inside of the building was amazing.
This is in a good location near the theatre and symphony hall district. A trip back in time, complete with dusty
corners. Attentive service but bland food. My broiled dinner came breaded and fried.
