I was at the restaurant this past Saturday for a wedding reception and I have to say that the buffet was the worst I’ve had in a long time. I’m in the hospitality business and I know the bride was on a budget, but if you’re not willing to put out a first quality buffet even when someone is on a budget, then don’t do it at all. It makes you look really bad!

As we went through the buffet we got to a large bowl for the salad that was empty. We waited a minute or two and more salad finally came. We moved a little further down the line to the vegetables and entrees. Nothing was labeled and guests could not figure anything out. I was able to help a little on things that I recognized. Then we got to the entrees. The first chafer of salmon and mashed potatoes again was empty. Again we waited for it to be replenished. I moved to the carved meats while waiting and I had the carver carve the roast beef for me. It’s a good thing that I like rare, because it was, very rare! Once I got the beef the salmon had arrived. I move back and got a little piece of salmon with the mashed potatoes. Once we were seated at the table I started to eat my salmon. I took the first bite and I thought to my self “hmmm…, that’s odd this salmon has a very funny texture almost like a mousse, as in a dessert mousse”. I thought maybe the chef had a different way of preparing salmon and this is the way it’s supposed to be. Then I took another bite and thought to myself “I don’t thing this is right and I don’t think I like it” I move it to the back of my plate. As I was talking to the guest that was seated next to me, she had mentioned that she thought the texture of the salmon was because it was underdone. I when back to my salmon and opened it and sure enough it was rare too. Now, I’m not a picky eater and I eat mostly everything, but raw salmon over mashed potatoes was not appetizing.

The service was attentive. I could tell that the waiter backing the buffet was a little frustrated that he didn’t have backup items. There was one waitress that showed some attitude. Again, I think when an event is rated and not spending the normal amount that the attitude is that they don’t get regular service.

The rest of the event was fine. I would have liked to have seen the event planner get a little more involved in moving the guests around. I don’t think that there were more then 100 guests there and to have them spread throughout on the two different levels made both areas look very empty. I think it would have been a better success to have everyone in one dining area. That’s just my opinion. Times are tuff and there were a 100 guests there Saturday night, I’m sure I’m not the only one telling my friends and coworkers about my experience. Again if you don’t plan on doing it right, then don’t do it at all!!!

Service was slow to nonexistent, arrogant and fake. I have wanted to experience this Restaurant for may years when I visited KC. There were two of us, we arrived at 7:30 on a Thursday, were seated then after a lengthy wait flaged down the bread waiter for menus, then I actually had to get up to ask someone to send our waiter to take our orders. There were perhaps 10 other customers in the restaurant and several service people but none were attentive.

Food was Great, creative, and fresh. But the service was so bad I would never go back - too many other excellent choices in KC.
