First off, we bought this car cash and took care of all the details over the phone.
We flew up to KC and they picked us up.
With everything taken care of, no trade in, and paying cash for a brand new vehicle over 35k with sales tax, we were there for 2.5 hours. When we got to the warranty guy he gave us his sales pitch. I told him that I didn't want it and then he said, "Well, you aren't very smart then." I told him that is fine, lets just finish this (we had been there for 2 hours already. I didn't want to argue, I wanted to leave. He then asked me why and I explained it to him (see below). He then told me that sounds like it is a good explanation, but I was an idiot for not buying a warranty. I said a few things to him and then he finally let us out of there. After that horrible mess, we had to wait another half hour just to get our van out the door. Then, the salesperson wanted to hold us there even longer. Luckily, Tim (I think that was his name, he played at WSU) was talking to us while we were waiting and was very nice and could see that we were very upset. He told the salesperson to let us leave and they did. Thank you VERY MUCH TIM!

I guess since they knew they had us captive and we needed the care to get back home, they figured they could do what they wanted. If I could have left, I would have. This shows the true character of the dealership. Once they have your sale, they don't care about you.

Why not to buy a warranty explained:
Lets say you pay $1,000 for a warranty. Lets say that 1 in 5 cars that you purchased has a catastrophic failure like a blown engine. You will pay $5,000 in insurance premiums for those 5 cars and pay 3-4 grand to replace an engine. You still come out ahead. I have an engineering degree, a master's degree in business, and I have studied economics intensively for almost a decade. I say this so that people understand that I know what I am talking about. With warranties, you may eat it once or twice in your life, but you will loose a ton of money over the long run.

I was very pleased with my experience buying a new Honda Element at Jay Wolfe Honda. I worked with Russ King in new sales, and he was great to work with. He was a straight-shooter from the very first conversation. I did tons of research and talked to every dealer in town, and Jay Wolfe was able to get as close as any other dealer to the price I wanted to pay. Russ also helped me understand the process better, helped me understand the trade-in process (both pros and cons for me personally), and was very accessible and amenable to all of my questions and concerns. I did not have a way to get to the dealership to pick up my car when it was ready, so he personally drove the shuttle over to pick me up and get me there. I am a single woman, and despite all the stories you hear about salespeople trying to take advantage of car uneducated female buyers, I did not find any of that at Jay Wolfe. They treated me with complete respect and appreciated my business. Randy in financing was great to work with too. He gave me all of the options, did not "hard-sell" me on stuff I didn't want, and helped me find the extended warranty I wanted to fit my personal driving situation. Not only am I very pleased with my new car, I am pleased with the entire experience, start to finish.
