Jasper's is definitely 5 stars. The food is great and the service is outstanding. Marco Polo's, which is the attached Italian Bistro type place, is a solid 4 stars. The only negative is the service isn't allways the best. The Fat Marco Polo sandwich is the bomb!
We had never been to Jasper's before but we received a gift certificate to the restaurant from our ring designer. It is a somewhat formal restaurant. i wore nice jeans with a dressy top and black heels. my fiance wore a dress shirt tucked into dressy jeans and nice shoes. There were mostly baby boomer age people there when we visited and they were dressed more formally than us but we did not feel out of place clothing wise. The ambiance is simple yet private. They have soft lighting with candles on the table, but it's not so dark that you have a tough time reading your menu. They had a small glass enclosed area with white christmas lights decorating plants and that looked gorgeous. We were promptly greeted and seated. We had perfect service from the time we sat down to the time we left. Their bread is FANTASTIC and WARM. The Italian Salad has very flavorful dressing. I ate the Minestrone soup and if you're sick of watery soups, then be no more. Their minstrone was very little water (just enough) but chock full of vegetables and flavor, as it should be. I ate the Marco Polo's special with spaghetti with meat sauce and chicken. talk about delicious! My fiance had something with clam in it and loved it. He also tried the coconut cake and really enjoyed it. It was a perfect experience all the way around.
Jaspers is absolutely unequivocally the finest restaurant in Kansas City, when you walk in the place you always see one of the brothers or nephew. There is a feeling there unlike any other place, they treat you like family and feed you like kings.
