    Ok I agree with most folks that Gates is not the best in town. I like Jack stack and Smokestack myself, but I just went to the Gates at 47th and Paseo and I received the worst singular serving of burnt ends in my life. They where all fat no meat and so salty I could not eat it. Prices are up but looks like quality is going way down.

    Gates is good, no doubt about it, but not the best in KC. For my money, it's the Smokestack on 89th & Wornall. The sliced beef is lean, moist & smokey. The beans are outstanding, the best in town or anywhere. The sauce is a bit sweeter than Gates, but with good bite (not the cloying sweetness of KC Masterpiece) The ribs are always excellent. Great value, to boot.

    I enjoy Gates very much. I am a deployed soldier and have their sauce sent to me everywhere I go. However, sometimes I feel gates is getting a little pricy. Bryant's, I do not like at all. I feel they are running on a reputation gained many years ago. Jack Stack and Smokehouse are also excellent. Knights in Northeast is very good as well.
