A spiritual walk with God: I was recently at Discovery Ministries on a work retreat. We were there to discuss and learn more positive ways to increase our work effort and feel good about it. Our group was 9 employees including the owner of the company. We did developmental skills and clear thinking techniques as well as applying what activities we did in relation to how we run our business. The group advisors and grounds people were all very friendly and highly experienced at what they do. They were able to present all our activities in a way that was not exclusively God and Jesus related. This was reassuring since most of us wasn't really interested in going to "church camp" being grown adult men. I believe whole heatedly that every one of us came out of the trip feeling better about what we had accomplished at the camp as well as applying those accomplishments in our everyday lives and just overall bettering ourselves one step at a time.
We arrived Thursday evening and was greeted by a very nice man at the front office. That night we game-planned what we were going to do until Sunday.
Friday we did morning activities to develop teamwork skills and positive re-inforcement. These were very helpful activities. That afternoon we went on a 3 1/2 hour canoeing trip. This was helpful in small group teamwork. The scenery was very nice and we saw plenty of fish, turtles, and beautiful wooded views including a tall rock bluff. Saturday we went orienteering in the National Forest nearby the camp. We were given a map with elevation designs as well as a compass to guide our way through the woods. We had a Guide, David, but he was there just to make sure we reached our points of interest (Goals). This was a 6-7 hour hike up and down hills as well as through the trees and waterways. VERY EXHAUSTING, but we were forwarned that this would be the case. It didn't help none that we got lost at our 4th checkpoint ( we were more than a mile past where we were supposed to be). We regrouped, changed our plan, and did in fact reach our fourth checkpoint and continued on to the final checkpoint (which happened to be our vehicle). If you go there, give all the best to the staff that works there. They are some of the nicest people that you'll ever meet. Hats off to David, our group counselor, as well as Bo (one of the cooks). I don't know everyone's name that was there, but I do know that they were very friendly and very helpful.
My personal opinion..... A great place to take not only church go-ers, but a great place to take a company trip to re-evaluate your life goals and how you intend to achieve those goals. All around A++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys and gals for a great trip!
