Worst Experience Ever. I would give no stars if I could. I recently stayed at the Arrowhead Campgroud in Eminence, MO. It started out just fine, great location on the river. Terrible bathrooms and showers with no toilet paper or hot water, but not the biggest of my issues with Arrowhead. During my stay, locals from Eminence, MO came onto the lot I was renting and completely raided the place. When asked to leave they refused and said this was their land and they were staying. This refusal turned into a giant mess/brawl and people ended up with several injuries. When the owner FINALLY came down to see what was going on, he did absolutely nothing about it. He knew all of the locals by name, and he did not care that they were making death threats at myself, friends, and family. The police were not contacted by the owner until later, and no action was taken from anyone. Scared and not willing to take any chances, we decided to leave that night. The owner refused to help us out at all, and he would not give us any of the money back for the nights we were no longer going to stay. He had probably already spent the money we had paid on alcohol for his children that were drinking underage (and also in front of the Eminence Police, that of course, didnt care.) It was our own version of Deliverence and the worst trip down there that we have ever had. The wasnt our first trip, and we have brought a lot of business down to Eminence, but IT WILL DEFINITELY BE OUR LAST!
Great time - rented a cabin and camper for three days. 4 adults and 6 kids and not one complaint. Rustic cabin is nice and beds are comfortable. Camper was a little older but still perfect for what we needed clean with a nice bed and air conditioning. Air conditioning was the coldest we have ever experienced, and welcome after a hot day on the river. The owners explained that they had flooded three times this year, and they have had to clean, fix,and replace many things within the cabins and campers. Private river landing was perfect for the kids aged 3 to 18 to all wade and swim. Campground was clean and owners were very nice and helpful. They were often found throughout the campground and available for directions or suggestions when needed. My daughter went to the office to purchase firewood expecting to get the little bundle like from the gas station and their son told her he would deliver the firewood right to the campsite, much more than the traditional $5 load. Robert took the Dad's and kids on a 4 wheeler ride to see the "Indian" and other characters in the trees when it got dark. The "boys" are all still talking about it. The younger boys loved the chance to play what they named the "Eminence World Series" in the parks baseball field right next to the campground. The last night we were there we decided not to cook and Robert called the Ozark Orchard restaurant and asked for Kat and told her we were coming for dinner and to treat us right. She told us to wait about 15 minutes as they were busy and didn't want us to wait. We arrived and were seated immediately and the food was great. My son's words were to Kat "this is the best chili cheese hound dog ever. Have you ever won a contest for this?" My steak was just the way I like it well done and juicy. Everyone left full and pleased with a great meal. We also rented our canoes and kayaks from Eminence Canoes and were also very pleased with the service we received. In our group the couple using the canoe decided very quickly after 5 times in the water before we had gone 1/2 mile the trip was not for them and wanted to stop. Walking to Alley Spring Mill they were helped by the conservation officers to contact Eminence Canoes about possibly coming back to get them, EC came back and picked them up free of charge. The rest of us continued on and enjoyed the trip and at the end we were met by EC to take us back to our vehicles.
Long story short we are already planning on the trip next year. If you are looking for a great vacation for the family, this is it. I do recommend if you have children going during the week when it is not as crowded. Wednesday and Thursday the river was less crowded and by Friday afternoon it had gotten somewhat congested, which made it harder for the kids to manuever their kayaks.
