As Brandon says, "Don't expect much." That's the best way to approach Lonnie Ray's BBQ. I have a cup that has the name "Lonnie Ray's All-American Grill and Cafe," and I guess it is that, but to me, it's all about the BBQ - especially the ribs. The meat literally drops of the bone. So tender, so French-kiss delicious! Oh, and make sure to try the charros - HOT beans - if you're wanting to sweat out a cold or just like spicy food. I usually compliment the charros with a side of applesauce.
And ask for pickles on the side - best way to wake the tastebuds before working on a rack o' ribs. If no pickles are available, ask Mike why not?! :) We have him convinced of the importance of the pickle, but he gets busy sometimes.... I cut my teeth on Gates & Sons, before they got too big, and Bandana's before it started to spread across the state. Lonnie Ray's is pure. (For the non-BBQ folk in your party, there are other alternatives - but if I'm there and you don't have the ribs, I'm going to be worried about you.) ENJOY!
Excellent BBQ. Their smoked brisket and pork are excellent - very flavorfull. Another specialty is the "Smokin Spud" (served Friday and Saturday evenings only) that is still steaming hot 5-10 minutes after it has been served, and topped with the meat of your choice, onions, and cheese. Always ask for Lonnie Ray's sauce to top it off. I rate a BBQ resturant by the quality of their ribs and Mike, Brandon, and Bud do not dissappoint. These are never burnt and always the right texture. Finally, for a twist, try their Gee Willikers sandwich - smoked balogna, slaw, onion rings, and Gee Willikers sauce on a bun. It is too die for! The atmosphere is great and the people even better. You won't regret this dining experience.
Best BBQ in the state...this or any other...Much better than KC BBQ any day and the crew that works there make this a fun time for the whole family...Thanks, Mike, Brandon, and Mr Bud
