The Blue Moose pleased on the food front but, other facets of the experience were less positive. First the good part. We started with salads, an excellent spinach and a (much) less impressive house salad described on the menu as "mixed greens", in reality the only lettuce variety was iceberg. The veggies were fresh and the dressing good, everything was crisp and cold. For entrees, the Rosemary Garlic Shrimp was outstanding and the portion size just right for lighter appetites. Equally well prepared and appetizing was the Herb Grilled Chicken, a definite char grilled standout in a world of often bland, unimaginative chicken breast entrees found elsewhere. The rice and spinach accompaniments were also fresh and appetizing, the tomato saffron broth made this item special. The Roasterrie coffee was just okay, but that's been the case with all the Roasterrie coffees I've tried (I want to like them). Our waitress, Rhonda, was great, experienced and skilled, knowing just the right amount of service to offer.
Uniforms consisting of blue jeans and black tee shirts, maybe okay at a joint but, too dressed down for this establishment. A few of the staff needed aprons if for no other reason than to cover their belly flab, not impressive. The experience at the table will take us back here. I think they need to emphasize to (some of) their employees the importance of appearances in presenting a professional image.
Everything is "real", no shortcuts... a true grill (hickory fire). Plus the 75th St. Brewery products! Amazing this is in the middle of Prairie Village KS.
Favorite Neighborhood Place: The Moose offers great weekly specials and variety of import beers with Thursday night specials and bottle wine for $10 on Tuesdays. Great way to sample new wines and enjoy great food. My favorite is the Artichoke soup!!! There pastas are also great! Sunday brunch is also a real treat!
