| About: | We are a locally owned restaurant rich in history. Opened in early 1940's and known for great choice steaks and our famous hand-cut french fries and homemade gravy! Our staff and customers is what makes this restaurant great. From David Childs, the cook, who has been with the restaurant 17 years to one of the remaining waiters, Charles Johnson, who is celebrating his 25th year with the restaurant this month! It is not uncommon to have customers who have been coming to the North Star for 20 or more years. In fact some of our regulars that come several times a month have been coming out for over 40 years! Formally a private club, we are now open to the public! |

Awesome beer! Excell...: Awesome beer! Excellent barbeque! Oh, did I say awesome beer?
I have heard about this restaurant all my life,
but had never been there. Initially, I think it
was a private club, before Kansas had
liquor by the drink and it required a membership. I left Kansas after college and came back for visits, but always went to my favorite restaurant, the China Inn (Sadly, it has closed.) to have a nice meal with my parents. So, we were looking for another place to go and I remebered The North Star. It is only about a mile or so from my parent's house, but I would be hard pressed to find it. The building is nondescript. I opened the door and there was small enclosed entry with another door on the other side. It made me think of a more notorious time and I guess The North Star has a rich history of being a speakeasy and hideaway. Anyway to the food. Excellent steaks!!! The beef is tender and flavorful and well prepared. I had a bake potato instead of the fries. It was quite good. I'll try the fries the next time I go. The manager was great and the waitress got everything right. My mom had the shrimp and I feel the batter could be mixed with some corn meal to make it a little lighter, but the shrimp was fresh and tasty. I love the dining area. Dark wood booths with high backs giving the feeling of seclusion. It was fun.
