Timberline put in a new menu and I always enjoy my steaks there. They are now cutting ribeyes and kc strips by hand and the quality is great.
I love the bread and honey butter and the cheese fries are the best appetizer on the menu.
a lot better than the big chain steakhouses.
I just got back from Timberline. I was terribly disappointed on several points. Timberline used to be my favorite place for steak in Topeka. The last 3 times I've been there have been sad. Tonight was the last time for me.
There are three problems with this establishment.
First is the menu pricing. A couple of years ago there was a noticable jump in menu prices. One item I recall used to be $8.99. It was raised in one increase to $11.99. That's more than a 30% increase. That is typical of many of the other items I noticed.
Second is the quality of food. It used to be you would get a house salad with your entree and a choice of 2 sides. Now the salad is an option in the list of sides. In other words if you still want the salad you only get one side dish. The salads are about 2/3 to 1/2 the size they used to be as well.
Tonight I had the 7oz sirloin, house salad and steamed veggies. I ordered the steak medium-well err on the side of well. The steak came to me bright red in the middle and chewy. The veggies seemed like they were frozen and microwaved. They were not steamed. They were very chewy instead of crisp. There was a rotten carrot on my plate.
The previous two times I was there the veggies were of similar texture. The time before this I had the trout and it was way, way overcooked. I sent it back, and I swear what came back to me was the same fish with butter on it.
Last is the quality of service. Yes, I know you can throw peanut shells on the floor. That's fine. However when I'm seated at a table I do not expect napkins and flatware on the floor under my feet. I also expect the seat to be crumb free.
I do not recommend this place. If you want a good steak go to Maple Hill or Topeka Steak House...any place but Timberline.
Awesome service, quality food, great setting. Management active on the floor greeting diners and checking in on their dining experience. Welcoming atmosphere.
