Favorite breakfast spot!: Brian and I love mom and pop diners. But it seems like Topeka is losing most of the quality places. We happend onto this little diner when our daughter was playing basketball every Saturday morning and we had to take her out South of town for tumbling afterward. It is a very small place. Less than 15 tables throughout. It is a bit crowded, but that just adds to it. When you arrive, you are expected to seat yourself, turn your coffee mug (already on the table) over if you care to have fresh coffee, and then a waitress will be right at your table with a coffee pot in one hand, menus in the other. Your food is served promptly (usually in les than 20 minutes) and is always great.

I recommend the midwest breakfast. It has two eggs, hashbrowns, toast or pancakes (I get the pancakes and they are PERFECT!), bacon or sausage patties (I get half and half). Their bacon and sausage is quite possibly the best breakfast meat I have ever tasted. It has the best flavor and the servings are large. My husband and daughter are partial to the biscuits and gravy (I have only had a few small bites, but the gravy is very tasty and the biscuits are wonderful). My son recommends the french toast.

Breakfast is available all day long which is one of reasons I love the place. I am always in the mood for breakfast, even at suppertime. A lot of the meals are available in small, medium, and large sizes to better fit your needs. They are great with substitutions and the food is very good.

The only flaw, as far as I am concerned, is the fact that this is still a smoking restaurant. If it went non smoking, it would be perfect. The bathrooms are new and clean, the tables and booths are clean, the staff are all very warm and friendly, and the price is right. Very affordable (a lot cheaper than some of the breakfast chains out there).

If you like mom and pop places, you have to check this place out!
