Here in the little town of Caney, restaurants are hard to come by, so Rio Escondido is actually only one of two places in town where you actually can sit down and be served by a waiter or waitress.
The service so far has been prompt and professional.
The decor of the restaurant is unusual. The is a mix of Mexican, American Indian and the Wizard of Oz!
The menu has quite a variety of mexican food, including Welsh Rabbit and others. You can find the usual tacos and burritos, et.al., but chili releno dinners and sizzling fajitas are to be found as well.
I have been very satisfied with the dinners as I have sampled so far. Everytime I have gone there, the food I have tried is of good quality; it is tasty, fresh and served hot. The quantity of food, relative to it's cost is very reasonable.
Because of the variety of the menu, I will try something new each visit.
The one downside to Rio Escondido are the limited hours. They are only open Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for a brunch. The owner is in his 70's and is trying to enjoy his retirement. I am hoping the family will continue his legacy.
All in all, I have been very satisfied with this establishment.
