⢠The Biggest, Best Chicken-Fried Steak Youâve Ever Tasted!
I have lived in Salina all my life and NEVER have I found a restaurant like Russellâs. The staff is friendly and the food is good and as for the portions size its awesomely huge for the money. Mind you this is not a 4 star place to eat but if you like having a Family meal at a family place then this is your place and I highlighted this in the menu for a reason because if you have found a chicken fried steak bigger and better than this one for the price well then you have done something pretty spectacular!!!!
It was a bad deal.
Stopped for breakfast on the way out of Salina. All I wanted was two eggs, poached, wheat toast and hash browns. Pretty simple.
Wrong.
The waitress told me basted was the same as poached. Apparently they can't, don't or won't poach eggs. Ok, basted. Comes with a biscuit. Toast? Comes with a biscuit. Hash browns? Extra. So, two eggs basted, biscuit for $3.45 Ok.
Only the eggs were not basted. They were fried, had the brown crispy fringe around the edges as the grill was a bit to hot. The yolks were solid. You could have made egg sandwiches of my 'basted' eggs.
Just pitiful.
Would I go back? Not in this life time and likely not in the next either. If you can't or won't cook an egg to order, turn off the lights, lock the door and take down the sign.
I do recommend the Cozy Inn, 7th and Iron, for a landmark and ledgendary, hole in the wall burger joint. 4 stars. And I would recommend the renaissance cafe in Assiaria. Assairia is a small town about 8 miles south of Salina. It is easy to find and just terrific. The building, food and service blew the wife and I away. I would strongly suggest reservations. If you pop in, you may have to wait. 4 stars here too. Ask for Kelly, our waitress. Tip her well.
Russell's? Not unless you enjoy being made a fool of. I don't.
Great pie!! This place has friendly wait staff, but the prices are a little steep. I guess the price of most things are going up. The philly-cheese and most of their breakfast platters are very good. If I'm in Salina around lunch, I usually stop there. I guess one thing that keeps me coming back is that Russell's is consistant. I've never had a bad lunch or breakfast. Try the pie, it is homemade.
