    Dear Stevens Creek Storage,
I called on February 18, 2009 to cancel my storage unit and to make sure our account was okay and finalized. I was told by the person that answered the phone that everything was in order for us to move out on Saturday, February 28, 2009. On Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. we arrived at our storage unit and there was a Stevens Creek Storage Padlock on the storage unit. I walked (through the UNPLOWED SNOW) to the office to see if by chance (fat chance) there was someone in the office. No one was in there, so I proceeded to call the phone number listed on the door. Half an hour later I was still calling that phone number non-stop, I decided to walk to the house next door to see if the owners lived there by chance. The tenants gave me the owner’s cell phone number. After that point, I continued to call BOTH phone numbers at the same time (my phone, and my husband’s phone) for the next hour. Finally, after an hour and a half of non-stop calling, Emily picked up the phone. She had to have her mom come get her, and come out to the storage units to unlock the padlock off of our unit which took an additional half hour or more.
I am very disgusted with Stevens Creek Storage. 2 hours of our time was wasted, setting us back in our moving. Those 2 hours were very costly as we were paying for truck rental and moving help. Also, I had to stand outside in the cold and tromp through the snow to try to find someone. The snow was unplowed, ridiculous! Also, we had to keep our car running for those 2 hours to keep us warm due to the very cold weather. To be honest, we expect to be reimbursed for our time and for our gas spent waiting. I was told by Emily that our rent must have been late and that is why the padlock was on our unit. I always mail the check at the beginning of the month so there is no way that it arrived past the 7th. I wrote the check right around the 28th of February.
Let’s pretend my rent was late. I called on the 18th to make sure everything was in order, and I should have been informed that my last check was late and I owed $10.00. If I had been informed, I would have brought in the $10 to square away our account. This is actually the 3rd time that Stevens Creek Storage has made a mistake with our storage unit. One other time there was a padlock on my unit for no reason. I was told it was put on the wrong unit. Another time, I was sent a letter saying I had not paid my rent in 2 months, and I had. This is the 3rd time. The first two times I did not complain, did not write a letter, and just took it as errors. This time, I will not take it as an error.
