Hello,
I thought I would share the experience my wife and I had at the Lakeside Toyota car dealership in Metairie, La on Monday July 18th 2008. A little about us, my wife is an Aerospace Engineer and I am a fulltime web developer and designer. We browsed online for available vehicles in the area, with our sights set on getting an economical SUV. We came upon a few at the Lakeside Toyota dealership that caught out interest and we wanted to get in touch with someone to ask about setting up a meeting. Chad Stowe (Internet Manager) was the person who first made contact with us after I sent an email of interest to him with what we were looking for. He came off very professional and courteous over the first email, but that is close to where the courteousness immediately stopped.
After work on Monday my wife and I headed over to Lakeside Toyota in Metairie to take a look at the vehicles of interest (4Runner or Highlander). After arriving at the dealership we found a legitimate parking spot on the Lakeside Toyota lot, after pulling into the spot we immediately received glaring eyes from the new cars salesman that walked up to us â we asked if it was ok if we parked right here and he responded with âI guess soâ in a very condescending tone. We thought nothing of it and blew it off that he was just having a bad day â if only we would have known what was going to unfold over the next hour â we would have gotten back into the car and left immediately.
We saw the vehicles that we were interested in on the lot so we walked over to them and began to take a look â after a couple of minutes we met up with Chad Stowe (Internet Manager) and he immediately handed us over to another salesperson, because he was âtoo busyâ â I thought that is what setting up a time for meeting was for? Guess I was wrong? About fifteen minutes later Chad Stowe found a few minutes to talk with us and asked if we would like to test drive the 08â Highlander that we had our eyes on. We agreed assuming he would hop in the car with us, and ride along explaining the features and benefits of this new vehicle. He once again said that he was âtoo busyâ and handed us the keys and told us to go alone and go do a loop and come back. We hesitantly agreed â but went along with it.

After a quick loop we were very interested in the car still and wanted to see what sort of price we were going to be working with. After sitting down with a different salesperson, we filled out the basic paperwork to get a price negotiated for the vehicle. This paperwork had our socials, addresses, driver license numbers, and more private information that in todayâs world â you donât want landing in the wrong hands. The price came back a little higher than what we had planned, but definitely still workable. It would come down to what type of financing we would receive for the car. After filling out a few more papers, the salesperson came back and told us that our financing was going to be a little higher then we originally planned, which was ok â but we just wanted to know why. This is when the âtypical car salesman mentalityâ came out of Chad Stowe â who walked in and immediately started disgustingly pushing us to pretty much sign the line â no questions asked â when all we wanted to know was why our financing was going to be a little higher then originally planned. Not much came in the form of answers from his mouth â but only a nauseating display of car salesmanship. My wife and I at this point were very annoyed with his behavior and decided that this will not be the dealership that we will be purchasing our new car from. We asked to receive our paperwork back that contained our socials and other personal info and Chad Stowe literally said âNoâ â âYou can not have that back, we file it away for our own referenceâ â Come again? I never agreed to this when signing it in the first place â He then proceeded to again put off the pressure routine of trying to sell the car â my wife asked âAre you pressuring us into buying the carâ â and he responded with and I quote, âNo, not yetâ. This is where we had it â another person purchasing a vehicle from the dealership at the time overheard this repulsive act and response and literally laughed at the salesperson and shook his head in disgust at Chad Stowe. Chad then said, âI canât believe you are going to leave tonight â You made me workâ â made you work? Isnât this you job? To try to put together the numbers and see IF we can make a deal? Again â I apologize to Lakeside Toyota for making your Internet Manger work on Monday night â No need to worry â I will not be putting him to âworkâ again. We again asked to receive our paperwork back, so that we know would for sure that our social security numbers were properly discarded â Chad Stowe, acting as if he was 4 years old and we had just taken away his popsicle â turned around, said a few choice words, and slammed the door on the way out the office. Confused â we gathered our stuff and walked into the back of the dealerships offices by ourselves and collected our paperwork from another salesperson. We walked out the door and we will surely never set foot in Lakeside Toyota again. It was just a disgusting act of salesman ship from Chad Stowe and a lack of concern for the customer that in the end ruined the deal. 1. Test drive w/o the salesman 2. âNo, not yetâ â on whether he was pressuring us into getting the car 3. âNoâ you canât have back your private information papers 4. Lastly â âYou made me workâ If you end up purchasing a car from Lakeside Toyota in your life, I sincerely hope your experience is much better, but if you have the option â I would highly suggest checking out other nearby Toyota dealerships instead. Just my two centsâ¦
