| About: | This old white clapboard building is located near the uptown riverfront. Frills are few and far between in this dining room of bare top tables and walls covered with fish prints. Specialties of the house include fresh vegetables, hearty fruit pies, fried green tomatoes, stuffed pork chops and boiled beef brisket. Cafe Atchafalaya is a great place for a weekend breakfast or brunch. This classic New Orleans eatery has recently been renovated and is under new management. Excellent food and service! Dinner was so great we went back the next day for brunch. Will be going again soon.
I never write reviews, but after having the best meal of my life last weekend at Cafe Atchafalaya, I felt I had to. From the appetizers (Crab Cakes were exceptionally good - lots of lump crabmeat, and little filler) to the entrees (Grilled Salmon with Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and Rosemary Potatoes - EXCELLENT), the whole experience was wonderful. The server was prompt and knowledgeable; the dining room is absolutely beautiful. Cafe Atchafalaya is the new place to go for great food at great prices. The new owner has done wonders with the establishment. Out of all the great restaurants in N.O., I would highly recommend this restaurant above all others.
This was the worst service I have experienced in any restaurant. Today was mother's day and cafe atchafalaya disappointed a local mother with a big mouth! The owner/manager is obviously missing a screw. he repeatedly told us after we sat at our table for an hour that our food would be out next. we watched people come in sit down eat and leave and OUR FOOD NEVER CAME. our waitress disappeared...no bread was given.... our 2 year old was not given a high chair... no drinks were offered. It was like a crazy movie. We laughed but had to just get the hell outta there and we won't be returning. funny note...i was a waitress at this restaurant about 15 years ago when it was under different ownership. this place needs to change the name (or, better yet, just close down) as it is giving the classic cafe atchafalya a bad name it does not deserve. It is an embarrassment to our city.
