I went to this restaurant last week and was seriously disgusted! There was a huge rat in the courtyard which they claimed was completely naturally and happens all the time! All they did was ask who was paying the check.. they did not one try to comfort us in any way, take anything off the bill or anything. This was the worst dining experience of my life!
Went to NOLA in Summer of 2008, on the way to Burbon street and stumbled across this place.... by far the best crawfish etouffee I have EVER eaten!!! The portions are huge! The prices are fair too. With my busy schedule It takes a lot for me to get online to write a review but this place is worth it. Going to be in New Orleans Spring of 2009 (in a week) for just a couple of hours and am planning the entire trip to coordinate with lunch time just so that I can eat here again!!! :) If you go to NOLA eat here... it is FANTASTIC!
Ok....really obvious when a disgruntled employee or just spiteful person writes a review. Here is a hint - next time you try to do that to someone/someplace, you have to make it a little less obvious that you're making it up.
We just got back from 5 days and 4 nights in New Orleans. Not really big on the Bourbon St. stuff so took a right turn on Conti at lunch time on day 1 and really never left. We ate a few times at other places in the city, including the "ranked" top restaurants. They paled in comparison.
See Maddie at the bar - she took great care of us each time we went in. Crab cakes 3 times - divine. Oysters - 9 dozen - great. Etouffee and gumbo - KILLER.
This place is not fancy but just fantastic. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit New Orleans but I will make a point to return simply to get here again!!
By the way, the place was FULL of repeat customers every time we went in. Cops, locals, tourists, Tulane students.....Best ever.

I've eaten at the Oceana several times and will continue to return. I don't ever remember seeing a courtyard, but we've always been seated near the front. If you don't want to see filth, rats, or other unpleasant things, don't go to New Orleans. All of these are on almost every corner there. I will continue to eat at the Oceana, because the food is excellent, the beer is cold, and the staff are very pleasant.
Seriously, where are you from? Some idyllic locale that is void of wildlife. If you have a problem with insects and rodents, try not dining in their habitat. And no, you don't deserve free stuff because the world around you continues to thrive. Go lock yourself in an airtight panic room and never dine out again.
