Best known for its Muffuletta (which has been featured on the PBS special, "Sandwiches You Will Like"), this Italian deli-grocer has been owned by the same family since it opened in 1906. For the uninitiated, this is the place to acquaint yourself with the classic Muffuletta, a massive round loaf stuffed with Italian meats, cheeses, olives, and more. Central Grocery has become more of a grocer than a deli over the years (the Muffuletta is the only sandwich you can order prepared) and offers towering shelves of imported goodies from Italy, Syria, Greece and Sicily.
this place had better muffulettas when i was a child-now this place is way way way over rated. over the years they have given us cheaper quality of meat, bread , &olive salad--the only thing that remains the same is the awful rude ,very arrogant ungrateful service-not one smile,a hello, welcome, how may i help you, thank you for coming-please stop by again. i remember for their 100th anniversary they went on the WWL ch 4 morning news show-they were so very rude , arrogant, didn't crack not one smile or express any gratitude to the loyal local & traveling public that has kept them in business all these years.remember your customers.show them the gracious appreciation and courtesy they deserve. i will never set foot in there again. horrible
proceed with caution. you will get hooked. and no other sandwich will do.

CLASSIC MUFFELLATAS AND MOUTH WATERING FLAVOR -- RIGHT HERE =D =D Our whole New Orleanians family is spoiled and can't eat a muffellata with as much pleasure and satisfaction as we do at the CLASSIC "Central Grocery" in the heart of New Orleans...
