| About: | Domilise's Po-Boys is your average neighborhood eatery, located not too far from Jefferson Avenue. A completely unglamorous place, this is the kind of restaurant you find by accident. However, it's known for its tasty, quantitative food at cheap prices and one could call it a teenager's paradise. The Sausage po-boy & Shrimp po-boy, are recommended amongst the long list of snacks. Because of it's compact space, the wait for a table during the peak lunch hours is long, so an early drop-by is advised. This unpretentious place is a good choice if you want to simply grab a bite. |

I've heard for a while how great Domilise's is but I wasn't all that impressed on my first visit. I even saw Domilise's on one of my favorite TV shows on the Travel Channel so I had to go check it out. I had a shrimp poboy dressed (dressed has a better meaning here), a bag of Zapp's (only side they offer), and a coke. My meal was slightly better than average, that's it. Enough shrimp to satisfy but I wouldn't say "overstuffed" like some other places in town claim (don't think Domilise's claims to be overstuffed, not suggesting that). I judge this by how many shrimp are left on the plate. In my case, zero. The space is old and unique in character but the prices do not reflect the obvious age of the building and staff. As a life-long New Orleanian I normally love places like this. It's just that they usually offer something truly unique on the plate not just on the walls. I'm sorry, but I just can't say that about Domilise's, it's the same 'ol same 'ol po-boy shop you see all over Louisiana not just in NOLA. I've had better at gas stations outside of New Orleans. That sounds harsh but those of you who are from NOLA know exactly what I mean.
I really do not understand all the hype. I got a half oyster half shrimp po boy. I thought it was extremely average. It wasn't overstuffed at all, or even just "stuffed". All I really tasted was bread. I just moved here and everyone had been raving about them. I just don't get it. It was good, just nothing special. AVERAGE.
My favorite Po-Boy in town. Great Atmosphere, Location, the people are great also.
