About:The grand dame of New Orleans' old-line restaurants, Galatoire's has remained committed to culinary excellence for more than a century. Under the guidance of the fourth generation of family ownership, it is her time-honored customs that still bind this renowned restaurant. Above all others, her rich tradition of serving authentic French Creole cuisine at a level that raises consistency to an art form. Excellent turtle soup. Shrimp remoulade - shrimp was overcooked. Entree - trout meuniere - the sauce a bit too oily, the crust tasted like fried flour. Good wine selection. Crawfish maison was heavenly. Service was excellent. A bit too pricey for an average meal, with a few excellent exceptions.

A wonderful choice in NOLA: One doesn't have a choice in NOLA, one has a dilemma when it comes to choosing where to eat. Here's my pitch. This is a classic restaurant that delivers. It respects the city's history and tradition. The service is top-notch and the food is just as good. Stories abound about restaurants in this city and elsewhere that have matured and become lousy. This one excels and locals know it. Wise visitors to the city know it, or will learn it as well.
The restaurant used to be exclusively first-come, first-served. Now, an upstairs dining room takes reservations. I'd likely still try for the downstairs when able.
