| About: | This Warehouse District saloon is just one large room with about 20 tables for dining, two pool tables and several televisions above the bar. There is an intricately painted mural of a bayou ho-down covering the interior walls. Happy hour and lunch are always packed with the 25 to 50 year-old business crowd, who work in the near-by Central Business District. The evenings typically are slow. This bar makes some of the best and most affordable barbecue in New Orleans. Menu items include slow-smoked beef brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs. The chili beans topped with onions, cheddar cheese, and sour cream are delicious. |

This neighborhood dive is a very short walk from the WWII Museum. The bartender was not overly friendly but it did not bother me. Had the brisket and the pulled pork sandwich. They were great eats for the cost. I do not usually like cole slaw but you MUST try it. It is unique and tasty! I would not go out of my way to go here but if you are in the warehouse/arts district and you are hungry, stop on in.
The food is good....love the bar. However the service (bartender) is unfriendly...Very rude, and not happy when non-regulars come in (this is the case every time I have been there). I tried coming there last night for the first time in three months with the attitude that maybe things have changed concerning the unfriendly atmosphere. Again it was obvious they did not want me and my wife's business. The second I walked in (litteraly...the second) the bartender barked out..."you know, you need to ORDER at the bar!!!" Yeah I know...give me second to sit down in one of MANY empty tables...and finish asking my wife what she wants to order...I mean it's like the bartender had costomers to tend to, she just saw we weren't regulars and treated us like tourists...so I walked 15 feet to the bar to order my drinks, and she ended up pretty much ignoring my order. The attitude of the bartender got worse with every growing second...so I payed for my drinks and left. As a New Orleanean, born and raised here, I of course have my neighborhood spots where people greet me with a smile and have some patience. Despite the great food, proximity to my house, and best food in the area (no kidding these guys do some GREAT stuff for the price!!!)...I will not be coming back to Ugly Dog.
Excellent Food, great prices. Normal and down to earth atmosphere.
Brisket and pulled pork were both terrific. Cole slaw unique, a little spicy, but I really enjoyed it. Potato Salad was just average.
Overall, a diamond in the rough.
