Beware of the auto’s you buy!!!
My dad is disabled he gets very little money each month. He worked hard all his life until a company he worked for disabled him. My dad and mom raised 8 of us kids and now raising 2 grandchildren. My dad has promised to buy mom a new automobile. And he was finally able to afford it in July 2008. Dad bought mom a Nissan Quest he paid 20,000.00 for it. It had only 20,000 miles on it. This year my dads birthday, Nissan of Lake Charles Louisiana sent him a birthday card with a free oil change. Dad has always told us be sure to keep our autos maintained, every 3,000 miles change the oil to keep the life of an automobile because they are so expensive. Dad has always changed his own oil on regular basic as a matter of fact just a few days before he checked all the fluids in their van. Then he received the birthday card from Lake Charles Nissan giving him a free oil change. He figured since it is getting close to time to change the oil he would let Nissan do it. Dad took the van to Lake Charles Nissan of Lake Charles, Louisiana in March of 2009. A couple of days after Lake Charles Nissan did the oil change he noticed it started to smoke. So he killed the engine then popped the hood opened. Pulled out the oils dip stick and noticed the oil looked like sludge. He pulled the dip stick between his fingers and the oil dropped off the dip stick like drops of mud.
He then called Lake Charles Nissan and asked what type of oil was put in the vehicle. Lake Charles Nissan’s head maintenance man said your engine is full of oil sludge. He told dad I’ll tear the engine apart and clean out the oil sludge for 700.00 dollars. And like I mentioned my parents are on a fixed income and cannot afford to pay for repairs that was not needed. So my parents started calling the owner and the maintenance techs of Lake Charles Nissan. They called at least once a day and all they would get was an answering machine, they would leave a message and would never get a call back. It was about 2 weeks later when the maintenance technician finally called him back. My daddy asked him what would be done to fix the problem that occurred after the maintenance performed by his auto department. His reply was nothing it is your problem. Then dad decided to call the factory where they build the Nissans, and their reply was it your problem but we will give you a phone number to one of the head managers. All that ever happened was the voice of the answering machine, so my father left over 3-4 messages a month pleading for someone to return his call for help with this problem. My father has left at least 2 months of messages. When dad finally got in touch with someone it was August 2009 and they said to bring the van to Lake Charles Nissan. They pulled the valve covers off. A head managers from the Nissan factory came to the place we purchased the vehicle at Lake Charles Nissan. The Lady took pictures of the motor after the valve covers were removed. They called dad to go pick up the van and said the lady would be calling them back. Two weeks went by and they never received a call back. Since she is the lady in charge of their case he could only talk to her. They have been calling her everyday and leaving messages, so he decided to contact Lake Charles Nissan and left messages with the owner to see if he could find out what they decided to do, and again no response!
Now it is 3 months later still hadn’t heard from anyone from NISSAN.
Since the FREE OIL CHANGE he received for his birthday, he has to put a quart of oil every 2 days. My dad owns an 85 GMC pick up and he trust it will get him from point A to point B before the van will. If anyone has any advice please comment.
