Weve been here many times over the past 3 years, and when we want good seafood, this is where we go. The fried alligatro appetizer is awesome, and we always get the fried seafood platter. i must admit however, they arent as big as they used to be, but they are still great just the same. We love the atmosphere, and we bring out of town guests here everytime. Love it when they have live music, you can even bring in the kids on those nights. The turtle feeding out back is fun. All around its a nice family cajun restaurant!
We've been probably 4 times: 3 times during the weekend and once during the week. Overall, I would rate everything as very good--better than average but not excellent. Great music and atmosphere when they have a live band; a must see. One main complaint we had was one night we went they had booked out the entire restaurant but didn't indicate there was a private party. Everyone was seated in the bar area and instead of closing things off they just kept packing standing room only around the tables near the bar.
Can't agree with other reviews. The night we went there was no band and very few customers. The A/C practically blew us out of our chairs. We had to get the waiter to turn it down (others had complained too).
We took some out-of-town relatives there to get some cajun food and were EXTREMELY disappointed. The stuffed mushrooms looked like hush puppies there was SO much breading on them. Also, they were very hard. The portions were small. The etoufee on the Catfish Boutin tasted strange. I've had a lot of etoufee in my lifetime and couldn't quite place the taste. Very unusual and not good. Also, the waiter got one of the orders wrong to top it off.
Next time when I'm trying to entertain out-of-town guests, I will definitely try another restaurant. If I want good Cajun food, I'll take them to Lafayette. Baton Rouge has other restaurants that are SO much better!
