The most romantic restaurant in Baton Rouge. The German dishes are excellent. The sauerkraut is braised in spices and apple juice and the Brauts are covered with saute'ed onions. The eggless custard is to die for. You seat yourself and the waiters are extra helpful. We go often, order something different each time and are never disappointed.
Pinettas is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge. I have eaten there at least a dozen times. My parents went there on dates when they were in college and my siblings and I have continued this tradition.
It is a small place with a quiet, romantic atmosphere. It doesn't have many tables so it can get full at times and as far as I know they don't take reservations.
There has only been one time that I've been there and gotten poor service and even then it wasn't too bad. I'd say that in general it is a bit slower than other places but to me it complements the atmosphere. I don't go there just to grab a bite, but rather to spend some time with whoever I'm dining with. They even used to have a waiter that would sing (very well).
I very much like the food. I would recommend the lasagna or pretty much anything that has a red sauce, but I haven't had anything bad. I had a friend from Germany go there and he said that their German dishes were about as good as things he got back home. I do agree that it can be inconsistant (but never bad in my experiences), but at least it isn't prepackaged and microwaved like some chain places are!
The prices are very fair in my mind. When my girlfriend and I went it was under $40 and that included wine and apetizers. I'd say a dinner for 2 would not exceed $60 unless you drank a rather large amount!
I suggest that anybody who visits Baton Rouge should check out Pinettas.
Worst service, best food, longest wait: We are huge fans of Pinetta's so this review is about as accurate as you're going to get.
Good points:
1. The food at Pinetta's is exceptional although not completely consistent. We've never had a dish that was bad, just sometimes the same dish is better than other times.
2. The atmosphere is quaint and unique. You can almost forget you're in Baton Rouge or even Louisiana.
Bad Points (and these are very bad points):
1. It takes FOREVER to get your food! Every single time we have visited, it has taken at least an hour from the time you place your order to the time it arrives on the table. The last time, after 2 1/2 hours of waiting after placing our order, we complained to our server and asked to speak to the manager/owner. She looked our way, exchanged words with the server but never came over. We eventually left at 11PM (closing time) without ever receiving our food or an apology.
Summary: get there early, wait, wait, wait, order appetizers as well as entrees, wait, wait, get appetizers, wait, wait, wait, finally get a refill on water, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, ask server about food, wait, wait, wait, wait, ask server about food, wait, get food, watch the sunrise as you enjoy the best Italian in Baton Rouge.
