I grew up in Baton Rouge but now live in Tx. My dad and siter still swear by Mike's. I went last week when I was in town and it was horrible. The coleslaw that was always amazing was disgusting...tart like. My sisters lemoade pie had a hair in it. My bf got Mike's special, he thought it was ok but I hated it. Definatly not what I remember. Plus we sat in the bar area to watch pre-season football and they have old school, small tvs that were really blurry on the right side of the bar. DISAPPOINTING to say the least.
I have been going to this restaurant for approximately 15 yrs.or more and never had a bad meal or bad service. However, it ended this past week. I ordered a shrimp poboy. One side of the poboy bread had two small pieces of shrimp and a sliver of another one. The other side had two small shrimp and the other piece of the middle shrimp. I took the two out one side and incorporated them into one half. At the end of the meal, the manager came to our table and asked how the meal was. I told him about the shrimp. He asked me if I wanted 1 more shrimp -- would that make me happy. I thought he was joking and I said,Yes. A few minutes he came back to the table and said my shrimp was on its way. This jackass actually brought one shrimp to my table. This was extremely rude and in no way will I be going back for a very long time. Quality has gone way down from the Mike Anderson's I remember.
I was hungry for boiled shrimp and went to Mike's. I was very disappointed! The shrimp was over cooked and the waitress forgot about us. I have not been back!

I have had better luck with boiled shrimp at Drusilla's in Baton Rouge. It has been awhile since I was in the area but we went there to eat and shrimp were plentiful and many of the tables were doing an all-you-can-eat and the piled high plates had shrimp that were cooked just enough, or at least the ones I weaseled off the guy sitting at the table next to us. I wished I had gone for the shrimp unitl my Red Snapper got there.
Drusilla's is a has been. Haven't heard a good thing about it in years...check out their reviews and it pretty much confirms bad food, service, management, you name it. However, I agree, Mike Anderson's is nothing special either.
Havent been to Drusilla's in years and decided to take entire family - mom, dad, kids and grandkids. The service was asolutley wonderful and the good was more than we could eat. Drusilla's was an old favorite and now it's again a new favorite. Will frequent Drusilla's often.
