On Monday, June 29th, my daughter, grandson and I were traveling from the Dallas/Fort Worth area to MS for a family emergency. My daughter was driving as we approached the Camp Rd exit off of I-20. I had to use the restroom and asked my daughter to get off at the next exit to find a restroom. Upon taking Camp Rd. exit there was some kind of sign along I-20 saying something like...Warning...Narcotics stop ahead, drug dogs. The sign meant nothing to me and we took that exit. Two Sheriffs office vehicles were parked there when we exited and turned right. One of the vehicles immediately got behind us with lights on. My daughter said the police is behind us with their lights on and I told her to pull over. The officer approached the rear of the vehicle and asked my daugher to step out of the car and bring her license. He then asked her where we were coming from, where we were going and why we took this exit? She answer those and he said "We aren't looking for people having drugs for personal use, we are looking for pounds and large amounts of drugs". My daugher told him that we didn't do drugs and he said "Yeah, right"! He approached my window motioning me to roll it down. He asked me the same questions as my daughter and I answered them the same way. He also told me about drugs for personal use and I told him we didn't do drugs. "Yeah, right", again was his response. He told me our answers didn't match that he asked and I asked him in what way? He then asked me where we threw the drugs out and I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. He then called me a Liar! I said excuse me? He then went to the drivers side and went through my daughters purse and my purse then he went to the rear of the car and looked in the trunk. He then told my daughter our actions told him we had drugs and she told him he could search the entire vehicle she had no problem with that. He then handed her back her license and told her "nevermind, you can go you are going to get away with whatever drugs you have today. My daughter got back in the car and I told her to just get out of there because we were both scard. I am 49 years old, never been in trouble with the law and never so offended and treated so poorly by a officer of the law. I understand them having check points for liquor, drugs or whatever but the treatment we received from the officer was absolutly uncalled for. He didn't run my daughters license, tag, find anything, see anything smell anything and we were respectful at all times. My grandson got to see and hear the way the police officer treated us as well. What kind of impression do you think he will have of police officers now? I'm a ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce a member of the Covention Center Bureau, in the process of helping to organize the South Arlington Business Council just to mention a few and deal with law enforcement regularly due to my different positions and where I work and I have never in all my days been treated in this manner. Police officers like him give the respectable ones that protect us a bad name and I feel he should be dismissed from the force or at least have an investigation into the incident to save any other innocent women from having to go through this kind of horrible ordeal.
