| About: | Check out Little Rock's hottest new restaurant. Sekisui is the area's hippest Japanese restaurant, drawing a crowd that is usually a well-to-do younger group. There is good reason why so many locals eat here. Although the food is a bit costly compared to other area Japanese restaurants, the food is delicious. A novel conversation starter is the revolving sushi bar. Tempt your palate with Hibachi grilled vegetables, Teppanyaki steaks, shrimp and chicken. |

NOT Japanese food...just what some American thinks Japanese food is. I lived in Japan for 15 years and my wife cooks real Japanese food daily. I was on a business trip and thought I'd give this place a try. I ordered 8 pieces of sushi...which were good but it's challenging to screw up a piece of raw fish on a pad of rice...also the Indonesian waitress (she told me because I tried to converse with her in Japanese)didn't know the Japanese words for the sushi even though they were clearly printed in Japanese on the menu.
I then ordered the tempura, which tasted like the grease it was cooked in, and the "fried rice", or so they called it was really hard American rice cooked in oil...it was so bad I almost spit out the first bite back in the bowl.
Another nice touch to the place was the staff, when I go to a ethnic restaurant, I expect there to be natives serving & preparing the food, not a bunch of Spanish speaking Mexicans hanging around the bar watching baseball on TV between bussing tables and serving food.
I was really looking forward to eating here; what a letdown. Again, this is NOT Japanese food. If you've never had authentic Japanese food then you'll probably not know the difference...if you have, stay far away from this place.
I then ordered the tempura
The food is great and the the staff is very freindly. I'm a bit concerned though about the state of the building. There are a lot of water leaks and what looks to be black mold growing on ceiling tiles. Some of their pane glass windows have delaminated and have a one inch gap in them. There is no barrier between the inside and outside. Seems the city code enforcement or health department should evaluate these issues and make them correct these problems. They just seem to be a bit hazardous for a place that serves multiple meals to people everyday.
Has good ambience but no personality...Sushi was alright like
everybody else...You know.. I believe... Gina's At Highway 10 should have a shot to be up with the heavyweights of Japanese restaurants.
Pray On, Work On and Hope on Gina's. You !!!
