I like this place, especially for coffee, studying, and journaling. The joint is close to the OU Medical school and downtown. Some interesting people drop in, and music is not on or it's soft, so, Java Dave's Downtown has a slightly bohemian atmosphere that's lacking from north suburban OKC and Edmond coffee places and restaurants. Also, proprietor and Java Dave's franchisor, Mr.Earl Neighbors, has installed an LCD TV in the back area, for quietly viewing news or other programs. On Fridays, in the hours before closing, local live music artists may appear in the main area.....
The back area has large wooden benches and commensurately large tables that form large "booths": These benches are not at all uncomfortable, and the "booths" offer plenty of space for nearby medical students with many books and large laptops. The only negative concerning the back area is that the business faces west, and the sun is unimpeded (no blinds?) in late afternoon--the place has other interior "booths" that are unaffected, however. Unfortunately, the place closes at 7 on weekdays and Saturdays, and at 3 on Sunday (it's popular for Sunday brunch)..
The old Santa Fe, now Burlington Northern, railroad goes north-south directly west of the joint. So, rarely, transients, with palms out and a story, appear in the parking lot. (Downtown OKC is at nexus of I-35, I-44, the train, and the Greyhound bus terminal. OKC is also a large trucking depot. So, multitudes of transients are downtown.) Anyway, I like watching the train. (Interestingly, the train also passes just behind the Java Dave's franchise in Edmond.)
I like the Java Dave's coffee since more choices exist, including flavored coffees, than at the familiar monster coffee chain (aren't' the coffees at the latter pretty much the same? (The latter don't have meals, either)--Anyway, the monster's signature taste is the same). . I think Java Dave's food is tasty, and, delightfully, it's not huge (nor too small). The food comes out pretty quickly, and it's fresh. I think the cook is very good, and I don't think he relies upon the food service companies so much as other chain restaurants' cooks (you'll note the latters' food has a familiar "zing"), and the joint even offers some Jamaican-themed (Jerk) specialties....
The coffee shop offers for sale many varieties of Torani syrups, branded bagged coffees, as well as interesting cups, gifts, and nicknacks. The staff is very friendly and helpful; as is natural, some have become close acquaintances....
(Java Dave's grew out of the Neighbor's Coffee Service (which still supplies businesses): It's a local roaster and family business. Overall, the chain is expanding (generally regionally) although a few franchises have fallen to the Seattle-based monster who, for the very unfortunate, sets up shop neaby. Even so, a Java Dave's franchise is relatively easy to set up for enterprising risk takers with some scratch. A store even exists in India (or, perhaps, it's still being developed). The chain has a small but somewhat interesting website (concerning company history) with contact info, some sale items, and business hours for the downtown location).
I don't have anything to do (in business relationship) with Neighbors or Java Dave's.
The best cheeseburgers i have ever tasted! And they have wireless internet!
Drive thru service is terrible and they always have an excuse such as battery not working, etc. You should not have to wait at the speaker for 3-5 minutes and still nothing!!! Ridiculous.
