good food: always good service and awesome dr. pepper
Always friendly, always fresh: I'd been going to this Taco Mayo once or twice a week for about two years (yes, I eat there too much.) The staff and management were always cheerful and pleasant, and it felt like it was my little secret-- the outside of the building was drab and the interior was dated-- but the bathrooms were always clean and the food was always great.
One day, however, they closed for remodeling and I feared the worst when they reopened. The building received a complete makeover, with the interior getting a trendy "Don Pablo's-on-a-Budget" overhaul. I saw some unfamiliar people behind the counter-- and imagined that the place had been sold to some out-of-towners with pure profits on their mind.
That's when the manager I'm most familiar with came out of the office, and greeted me by name as he had for so long. I placed my order and received it quickly-- as good and tasty as always.
Hands down, the place beats its closest competitor, Taco Bell. From the personal attention to customers, to the lack of corporate depersonalization, this Taco Mayo is a place I can return to (and do all too often) again and again.
The next time you think quick "fake Mexican food", forget Taco Bell and head straight to Taco Mayo. You'll be pleased!
