Great food: They do have really good food at a reasonable price. By the way, there are alot more than 2 Del Ranchos around. They just opened one in the Dallas area
a piece of history: Today I had a Steak Sandwich Supreme (Reg TM of J.M. Hunt of OKC) in a place that hearkened back to the glory days of this chain. Back in the 1950s, Del Rancho Restaurants were all over central Oklahoma. Sadly, I know of only two that remain today...this one in Tahlequah and the one on South Division in Guthrie.
The building is unpretentious from the outside--in fact, if it wasn't for the 30' sign alongside US 62, you just might miss it.
Inside, it's like you stepped through a time portal--back to 1955 or so. There's metal signs on the walls, the sound system plays '50s rock'n roll (Sirius Satellite, sadly) and you'd almost swear the waitresses were wearing poodle skirts.
The Steak Sandwich Supreme is a 1/3 pound chicken-fried steak with lettuce, tomatoes, & mayo between two buns. The steak hangs over the edge of the bun. $4.20 is a bit pricey (to me), but it is very tasty! Despite the cost, the place does a booming business from 6 AM 'til Midnight (dining room hours are from 6A to 11P). It's on the FAR south side of this college town, but oh man is it worth the trip!
