That is the BEST place to go for some good ol' italian home cooking. They haven't updated the place in about 50 years, and I asked the owner why. She said it was because everyone tells them to leave it as it is. I agree. They have run that place the exact same way for all this time and it is what works for them. The food is wonderful. Very simple but freaking amazing!!! (I'm drooling at the thought of it!) The only way for you to know is go and try some yourself. The portions are incredible. You can't stop eating, even when you should!
All you haters talking crap about this sweet little place need to kick yourselves in the butt 'cause you just passed up a REAL italian restaurant full of love, family, a little drama here and there (you can't help but notice because you can see straight into the kitchen, but italians roll that way), and a rich history that has been passed down from generation to generation. The owners of GiaComo's have been big contributors and kept that measely little town alive this whole time. Without GiaComo's restaurant, McAlister would cease to exist.
(Oh yeah, and Pete's Place is not even in the same league as GiaComo's)
We ate @ Giacomo's instead of Pete's Place on our visit to McAlester on 3/15/08. I was not impressed with the food or atmosphere. The restaurant was very noisy and the seafood alfredo was prepared with IMITATION crab meat. On my next trip to McAlester I will be returning to Pete's Place.
I ate at Pete's Place and was not impressed so I thought I would give Giacomo's a try. Let me say that they are very similar in taste and vaule when it comes to spagetti, bread, and ravioli. I rated Giacomo's better than Pete's place because of their shrimp scampi. It is simply the best I have ever had, my husband agreed. If you are looking for atmosphere all I can say is Giacomo's has mood lighting but it is mostly out of necessaty because they haven't updated anything in atleast 40 years, it wouldn't be a big deal but when you drive up to the restauraunt you will see the owner's parking spot and the jaguire parked in it, spend a little of that money on updating your restuaruant instead of purchasing $80,000 cars.
