Huffines Chevrolet-Subaru Lewisville

I initially was as pleased as punch when I bought my used 2006 Subaru Baja from Huffines about a year and a half ago. When I purchased the low mileage vehicle the deal included it being covered as a Subaru Certified used vehicle.

That the vehicle was a Subaru Certified vehicle meant very good coverage beyond the powertrain warranty. This was well understood as a part of the deal, that such coverage was a deal killer part of the sale.

OK, so I didn't buy credit life or pin striping or scotch guard but money and goods did change hands with clear expectations. And mea culpa, I didn't to my later regret put on an account's green eyeshade and lawyer's scowl to pore over the paperwork like Scrooge McDuck to ensure they weren't out to screw me. I had what you called trust in the establishment.

Come time 1.5 years later, a significant service on the steering needs a fix. Then and there I find out that their computers do not show my vehicle as Subaru Certified. Now it is up to ME to prove that it originally was Certified - can I produce all the necessary paperwork to prove it should have been postedinto their systems as Cerfified?

I was directed by the service department (to their credit, a better one than most I've dealt with in DFW) to speak with the manager of used sales. It went downhill from there. On a Tuesday I was assured by the preowned sales manager that this would be looked into and I would get a call back no later than Thursday on the matter. Thursday no call, so I call the preowned manager and get voice mail, voice mail, voice mail.

Friday I am about to call again when the service deaprtment reaches me first. They advise me that it is fixed and ready to be picked up for a real deal, a discounted fleet price parts & labor fee of $959 (since it was not covered as a Subaru Certified Vehicle, mind you).

The preowned sales manager was off that that day, so he could not be reached. Sorry about that.

OK I get it - on Tuesday it was get the complaining guy outta your office with a promise to look into it and duck him later by telling someone to tell him he gets a 10% fleet pricing discount to make it good, on an estimate that comes out - wow, about the same as it was gonna be without the "fleet" discount.

I don't hold any hard feelings against the service folks, just the sales people who did not follow through as promised to keep me in the loop.

And I will henceforth follow thorugh on my promise to advise people not to entirely steer clear of Huffines Subaru, just be very very very very careful in dealing with them. Trust nothing and check everything and keep two copies and have them explain everything twice.

Just be sure if you buy from them to go over all the paperwork - every page. Be sure you know how to force their hand later on their promises of warranty. Be sure you know how you will make them verify that they have posted all their paperwork into their computer systems.

Be sure to plan your follow up on a cheap warranty claim as soon as possible to verify that they will not leave you high and dry on an expensive one.

Don't relax, count your fingers after shaking hands, have a good plan to be sure they don't screw you later, keep at least two copies of all paperwork, and have all things said in front of a reliable witness and a make tape recording and a video recpording to boot so that later you are not stuck with a thousand dollar repair bill that should have been covered by warranty.

Their service department is first rate - no need for all the definseive armor when dealing with them, just the front end that takes your money.

So other than the above few small caveats, you should have no problems dealing with their sales staff.

This is the worst car dealership I have ever dealt with. They lied to my husband about not having a truck in stock becuase they wanted it for themselves. The other pre-owned manager lied about submitting my credit application and then tried to go back on his word. And after everything, they tried to raise the price on the truck 500.00 while they were submitting my paperwork! I will never work with this company again.
