I took my nine year old to the park in response to an ad for the "Ropes Course". We had to walk 1/2 mile into the woods following yellow signs directing us to the ropes course. Just as we were getting close to the course an employee of the ropes course met us and stopped us. He told us that the course was in use by a group and that we would have to come back another time. I asked him if my daughter and I could just peek in at the course to let my daughter see what they had. The staff member told me that we could not go near the course. We found a spot where we could look through the trees and see the course. It was nothing more than a few trees with cable hoist pulling kids up and letting them free fall. I still don't understand why the employee cut us off and refused to let us see the course. My thoughts are that they should have posted a sign at the main path letting people know that the course was closed to a private party. That would have kept me from walking 1/2 mile only to be cut off and turned away. My nine year old daughter was disappointed that she was not even allowed to look at what the place had to offer. Have a brochure ready or something if you know that people are walking through the woods for nothing. We passed several families on their way to see the ropes course as we were making our way back to the museum. They were all making the same walk for nothing.
The museum was neat. I think that it would be perfect for the 6 and under crowd. The little kids were facinated with the Dino exhibit.
Visit the museum, but don't waist you time walking through the woods for the ropes course. I got the impression that the ropes course was affiliated, but not run by the museum staff.
I go all the time and I dont have any kids. I also love to turn my friends on to this place. It's a wonderful place to go and learn, check out nature, take a long walk and get lots of fresh air. I love the animals too so it's perfect for someone like me and also my friends. Everyone I've taken there has fallen in love with the place. Doesn't cost much to go in and also has memberships to make it even more cost effective.
heards: great place to get out of the city and relax. see all the nature and wildlife. great time with the family or alone either way you will enjoy the trip.
