This is the letter I wrote La Duni management:
Hello,
I visited your McKinney location this morning (7-27-08) with my husband and two friends. We arrived about 11:00a.m. and were seated outside. A waitress came (unfortunately I did not get her name) and took our drink order. She returned with our drinks and took our food order around 11:10a.m. Three of us ordered egg dishes and one of us ordered the yogurt and granola dish. After about 45 mins. we did not receive our food. However, we did notice that EVERY customer around us was served. Importantly, customers that arrived after us were served and receiving "to go" boxes and we still had not received our meals.
At this point, we stopped our waitress and asked if we would have to wait much longer. She told us that there was a "mess" in the kitchen and some plates were dropped. We accepted that excuse and continued to wait. However, we noticed that more customers who arrived after us were still receiving their meals.
In about 10 minutes, the waitress returned asking if we wanted bread while we waited. At this point, I became very frustrated and asked her how much longer it would be if there was still time to bring us bread. At this point we had been waiting about an hour. Customers at the table behind us, looked at us and said "Wow, you guys were completely abandoned." Another patron, walking out said, "Enjoy your lunch, if you ever get it!" At this point, we were embarrassed, disappointed and hungry and decided to just leave. On our way out, my friend and I spoke to the manager. She did apologize and offer to seat us inside and serve us immediately. Though, I appreciated her offer, at this point, I just wanted to get as far away from La Duni as possible, never to return.
I do not know why we were the only individuals on the entire patio that did not receive their service. I hope this matter is addressed so that others will not have the same experience. As for me, my friends and anyone I speak to about La Duni, we will not return or ever recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food is very good, and it arrives beautifully plated, too, which goes with the warm and inviting decor. The style is Euro-Latin with flair. This is a great place for a date or, because the desserts are excellent (try the warm chocolate pudding with caramel, chocolate, and raspberry sauces or the chocolate hazelnut cake), you can come for dessert and coffee, it's got a great atmosphere. The service is generally good, though their waiters don't always seem very clear on things (if you ask them about their afternoon teatime, for example, they seem a little confused), but the service is friendly and attentive otherwise. I'd agree that drinks are pricey (though they have a wide and nice variety of coffee and cappuccino drinks).
