So disappointed!I have been in Dallas for 20 years. Black Eyed Pea and Dixie House used to be "the place to eat". One year ago we went to Black Eyed Pea on Greenville Ave. and were so disappointed by the service and food. We love the food at Dixie House but the atmosphere is awful and the staff makes us feel as if "they don't need our business." Then two weeks ago our office had a lunch meeting and we ordered from Black Eyed Pea ...the salad had a worm in it. Then although the staff loves the food from Dixe House...we thought we'd give them a shot but they would not deliver to us for free to just 6 mi. They wanted 15% plus a minimum of $100.00. Do their managers managers even care?
I just moved to Dallas, and my boss took me there for dinner, I was so impressed with the food, and when my daughter came to visit I took her and my son-in-law there and they loved it, I don't understand why so many bad reviews, guess you can't please everyone. I love the Dixie House.
I give this place an awful rating due to the fact that they had the fans running backwards, on winter mode, in 100+ degree heat outside and the temp inside was at least 85-90 degrees. I felt so badly for my server, Rene, a very nice you man that tried to get the manager to do something about it. I had gone in wanting a light dinner, ended up ordering an appetizer, of which was tasty, and also had eaten lightly with the hopes of having dessert. I had such a horrible headache by the time the heat had taken its toll on me that I did not order the dessert and instead tipped the very good waiter very handsomely since I knew that it must be hard to make much money in this environment. I asked to speak to the manager on duty myself, he finally came over just as I stood up to leave, and did not have any sort of response to me. He was made very aware by me thru the waiter of the heat problem as well as the fans running backwards, and did nothing. He stood there like an embasil and had a blank look on his face. When I informed him that it was very unlikely that I would come back he just turned around and walked off, as if it mattered not that he was not just losing business, but also running business off! I was outraged and tried for 2 weeks following to reach the general manager, but, conveniently, he was never in or had just stepped out. This place is poorly run and the servers are, in my opinion, being abused, to have to work in such a hot environment. Had I wanted go eat in the heat there are plenty of places with patio service, even in scorching heat. I did not. I was never heard. I would never return here. It is really sad because years ago this use to be one of the best places in Lakewood to go eat, but, this is no longer the case. I would strongly recommend that you think twice about wasting a good dinner eating in such extreme conditions!
Horrific food for the Lakewood area. I've had better service at a CiCi's pizza. I can't believe the good people who join me in paying astronomical property taxes to live in the area can't get this place shut down.
I have been dining off and on at the Dixie House for a number of years. I've always enjoyed the food. However, I've requested more than once that the restrooms be made handicapped accessible but for some reason the Dixie House feels it is exempt from the ADA which has been in effect since July 1992.This restaurant has no problem taking my money but I cannot access the restrooms like others. Therefore, an official complaint will be filed with the U.S. Department of Justice. It's really sad to know this restaurant has not voluntarily complied with the ADA over the past 16 years and apparently has no real concerns for their disabled consumers.
I can't believe I ate the whole thing!: I can't believe I have lived in Dallas (lower Greenville) for years and had no idea that the Dixie House existed. A friend took me there for dinner and I was blown away. I had the chicken fried steak which should have been enough for two people and I didn't leave a crumb on my plate. Everything about the place, including the food was awesome.
Great down home cooking: I have been visiting the Dixie House for several years. The food is excellent, I have not been disappointed. I love the rolls and cornbread that accompany each meal. The food is fresh and the proportions are large. My mom always has to take a box home with the leftovers. The restuarant is in Lakewood in an old corner building. They also have a full service bar.
Best Home Cookin' Around: Dixie House has always been a old family favorite, I love the environment and the people are so wonderful. The food is out of this world, no matter what you get. The whole place just brings back so many memories I love it!!
