| About: | This is an eclectic, casual approach to sophisticated dining. Located in a 1950s building in the Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff, patrons are surrounded by memorabilia from the 1930s,'40s and '50s. The American cuisine adds a touch of modern-day taste and savoir faire. A favorite of area office workers, the unique blend of old and new provides an unusual oasis from the doldrums. Selections revolve around fish and seafood, although there are beef and chicken dishes. Choose from Baby Back ribs with Oriental cole slaw and barbecue sauce, Blackened Catfish, Grilled Trout, Salmon and marinated Chicken with lime and cilantro. |

Ignore all reviews dated prior to 2007, this isn't the old Tillman's. The new Tillman's Roadhouse is, in a word, TRENDY. Simply put, if you want a place to take a date that's interesting and you don't mind paying high prices for food that's, again, interesting but not great then this is a nice place to visit. Sara Tillman seems to be a nice lady.
However, if you're taking a group (or a family) be prepared for slow service, high prices, and the inability to carry on a conversation across the table. The servings are built around a very moderate portion of meat sitting on a huge mound of either potatoes, rice, or macaroni and cheese. The food is not bad, but for what you pay you'd expect a much higher overall dining experience. Our family of six (including a two year old who only had mac and cheese) ended up with a bill barely under $200.
All in all, Tillman's is not my idea of a good time.
I like the old place better!!!: We went for a romantic dinner thinking it was still the old place and was very surprised to find the new design. The look of the place is amazing, very beautiful!! But the food and drinks were awlful!! The prices were high and the selection was small. We had the Chicken fried steak, small portions, tough meat but a very high price!! The drinks had no taste and were very boring!! We were not impressed at all and won't be back!!
Old Tillmans Was Better: What happened to the OLD TILLMANS? The prices went up and the food does not match the $$$$. The chicken friend steak is half-cooked, tough and certainly not worth the price.
