Since being diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyleinating Polyneuropathy in 1995, I've been in Zale-Lipshy Hospital so many times with paralysis from weakness, I've lost count. I've had numerous immunoglobin infusions as well as plasmapherisis. Each and every time, the doctors and nurses there have made me feel comfortable to receive their care; how fortunate I've been that the comfortable feeling was exactly right for not one of them has let me down. I would be terrified if someone I didn't trust and put faith in, entered the room to administer plasmapherisis. Luckily, a gentleman by the name of Moses, who has been with the hospital many years, has performed the blood exchange: I'm able to relax and know the outcome will be great. In l995, Dr. Richard Barohn (now at the University of Kansas) was my neurologist. He was exemplery but wanted to leave his patients in equally capable hands. He did that with Dr. Sharon Nations When most patients enter hospitals, they first place their faith in God and secondly in their physicians. At least, that's what I do! I've had the amazing honor of meeting some of the best doctors in other fields, e.g. M.S. Dr. Froman was filling in for Dr. Nations one week and he visited every day. He and Dr. Nations are quite well known in their fields for their outstanding work; deservedly so. When I'm visited by physicians taking Dr. Nations' patients, their willingness to help, eagerness to learn, compassion for patients is quite great. Certainly, I don't wish to be remiss in mentioning the friendliness, helpfulness, and expertise of the nurses. What a wonderful group! Don't know how Zale does it, but even the housekeeping staff is far above average. I'm now 65 years young and wish I could visit with everyone experiencing C.I.D.P. to give them encouragement and hope when they see how well I am doing, today. The way I see it, with the kind of care I'm receiving, I may be able to see many of my nine grandchildren graduate from high school. Don't know about the two great-grandchildren! That may be a stretch!
