I visited Dovie's in June of 2007 while searching for wedding locations for my upcoming wedding in January 2008. I fell in love with the charm of the building and booked the restaurant and put down a deposit of $1000. On January 2, 2008, Liz (owner) called to tell me that the restaurant was forced to close by the new property management! 10 days before my wedding! She promised she would return the deposit to us but I have not seen the money and I have not heard from her since that day. On the day of my wedding, I stopped by the restaurant to put a sign on the door in case I forgot to send the new address to any of my guests. There was a sign on the door from the property management that referred to 2 letters sent to Dovie's management/owners during the month of December in reference to non-payment according to the lease contract!! What irks me the most is my mom & I made more than 1 phone call to Liz & Adam the week between Christmas and New Years to confirm head count and menus. They acted like everything was fine even though they knew they were being forced out of the restaurant on January 1! Their website says "closed until further notice" so IF Dovie's is reopened under the ownership of Adam & Liz, I would NOT recommend booking this restaurant for a wedding or reception!!
Christmas Eve dinner at Dovies was a horrible experience. The waitress was inexperienced and poorly trained, the owner/manager (Elizabeth) was inattentive, rude and took no responsibility for poor service, and the food was bland and tastless. It is a restaurant we will never return to nor recommend.
The Death of Dovies: On Mother's Day (5-13-2007), I took my whole family (10 of us Total) to Dovies so that we might enjoy a family meal together. To my shock & horror I discovered that on this day Dovies no longer serves you at your table, but instead you must go thru a buffet line to get your meal. The wait staff and servers were rude and acted very put out if they were asked for anything. The entire staff was very unorganized. The food was cold, dry, and very unappealing. For the cost of $22.00 up to $37.00 per person, we expected an enjoyable meal and a relaxing experience. We received neither. Our family has enjoyed Dovies for many years, but after witnessing the Death of such a fine restaraunt we will never go back. From start to finish this experience was a nightmare!!
