we were there this weekend and ate there Friday night and then again Saturday afternoon; that's how much WE like it! We left around 4:00 p.m. and were so saddened to see in the paper the next morning about the fire. So glad to hear they are rebuilding! The two waitresses we had on these two visits and prior visits (4 or 5) have all been excellent. They chat with you like you are family. we were both going to get the all-you-can-eat but they were honest enough to tell us the small catch was probably enough --- and it is! The coleslaw is wonderful and the hush puppies are out of this world. Yes-- the building is/was old, but if you want modern, go to any chainchainchain up and down the street. It gave it "charisma." The atmosphere only added to the dining experience and the view is relaxing. We'll anxiously await your new restaurant and we will be back with bells on. :)
We moved away from East Texas, but Big Pines has always been one of our favorite places. Yes, sometimes the fries are a little greasy... but they're FRIES (home cut). The cole slaw is the best... I spent a long time trying to copy it and finally have something close. So sorry to hear it burned; hopefully they will rebuild. It was something of a "dive" as far as appearances go, but sometimes dives have the BEST food!
Sad to report that Big Pines Lodge burned to the ground today. Hopefully they will rebuild!

OMG , I'm so upset about the fire ! Does anyone know of another good place for catfish on the Karnack / Uncertain side of Caddo . Is Cypress Bayou anywhere near as good ?
