When I came to east Texas I was greeted by a wonderful exquisite tex-mex cuisine that is extremely tasty (as I'm from the north Tex-mex is not to be heard of) one day I decided I wanted to see the rugged food that Texas is known for, so with great anticipation I went to the Silver Spur to hopefully taste the delectably rugged food we call southern comfort food in the north. I was utterly surprised. When you walk in your greeted by more cigarette smoke then I have ever seen at a restaurant, stuffed animals (that have never been dusted) adorn the walls and stare at you with creepy glass eyes. You must seat yourself, 10 min. after sitting my waitress came, she had no level of professionalism (she actually chewed bubble-gum in front of me) and needed to bathe, she rudely asked me what I wanted to drink, and got the order wrong. How hard is to get water with no lemon? I ordered the special that day beef tips and rice, a very salty meal, with two gooey sides of mash potatoes and green beans, both VERY salty. And on my love for our country I swear to you I saw a water bug run up the window blinds in the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone; it gets 1 out of 5 stars, respectively.
The service is horrible and the waitresses DO look like death warmed over, they care nothing about their apperences none of them. Dont eat there for your own good, you'd be much better off going to one of the mexican food restraunts that offer a better selection, price, atmosphere, and MUCH better waitresses. If anyone dissagrees with me ask them to post pictures of the restraunt you'll see for yourself. Their walls are dirty, dead animals hang on the walls, and only eat there if you don't mind sharing your food with their water-bugs.
i am back again to comment on the spur.it is a great place to eat. people drive from all around to gladewater to eat at the spur.the waitresses are really good at what they do , they have to be or mike sollars(the owner)will not hire them.the waitstaff at the spur and texas traditions(the gilmer branch) are in my opinion the best around. it is hard to find employees that work as hard as we do. some of us put in between 40 and 60 hours a week in these restaurants they become home to us , we also become a famiy. i dont think if you go anywhere else you will see a staff as close as some of us. we work together great and outside of work most of us spend time together. so to the one who said we dont care bout the way we look we do. and we try our best to welcome you to the restaurant the same as would our home because as i have stated above the spur and texas traditions has became our 2nd homes.we are a big family thats all we are. I love my job i wouldnt trade it for the world.
