User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsMaybe I was a bit too hasty on that fellow that said he got a lousy meal at the old El Charro. I came to Tony's rescue on that message, but danged if I didn't find later I need to apoligize to the man. I dropped in for lunch about 2 months ago and ordered the "enchilada special". after about 3 bites, I realized that the suckers were burned and the rice and beans were just thrown together,I asked for Tony, but he was gone, some lady who said she was in charge could not satisfy me by telling me I had eaten too much to warrant a complaint and even worse a refund. So its adios longtime happy place for this old cowboy!
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely awesome. They have the best all around food and the hot sauce is great. If you don't want Mexican food that's ok because they have the best Chicken Fried Steak also.

Absolutely the worst Tex Mex I've ever eated. Restaurant is definitely over rated. Good hot sauce but not the best in Tyler. Salad dressing is awesome but can't live on hot sauce or salad dressing.
red,you need to go by and talk to Gus or Tony about your taste buds.That 1943 sign above their doors is not a street number,it's how long they have been serving their repeat customers and friends.
Scharlotte- Red, you just don't have the Tyler taste! There are people like me that have been going to El Charro's since l943. Ask the kids who are in from College where the first place they go to eat and see old friends. Maybe it is just a taste that you learn to love through the years. I enjoy the other Mexican food places here, but I have to have my fix at El Charro's! Hang on! And one day you may enjoy it too.
