I personally know Don Joses Restaurent..and would like to say that they are overall the best mexican cusine in town. Everything is made from scratch from their homeade tortillas, to pico de gallo to guacamole..believe me i know about the hard work put into the food to make it the best for the people of Palestine and for all of the visitors that are just passing through. Thanks for making us your kitchen away from home.
Last year, I gave Don Jose's 3 stars, but I ate there last week for lunch and it was so good my wife and I went back on the weekend. I had to update to be one of really two decent Mexican restaurants in Palestine.
First of all -- they have fresh salsa which is quite good. Second, for chips they have actual fried corn tortilla halves, which are really the best in town. Third, they serve alcohol and their drinks are pretty good -- the top shelf margarita is quite nice.
Now, let's talk real food. If nachos are what you crave, by all means try their Nachos Oscar, which have ground meat, beans, guacomole, sour cream, and jalapenos, and cheese on them -- they are truly something special on the aforementioned homemade chips. In addition to their very good Mexican entrees, they serve up a good "Jack Daniels sauce" steak, which was tender and tasty. It's fairly quiet (although they have pool tables in another part of the restaurant), you can linger over your meal, and the service is very good. Enjoy!!!!
We enjoy eating at this restaurant. They have a nice kids menu that includes a drink and ice cream or sopapilla for dessert. Their fajitas rock! The Queso, Cheese Enchiladas, Rice, Refried Beans, and Hot Sauce are also very good. The prices are not bad either. The main problem that we have noticed over the last couple of years is that one day you might get great service, and the next time you have to get up and refill your own drinks! Despite that, Don Jose's remains our favorite "Mexican Food" place to eat in Palestine.
