I would never take my child to Dr. Carlson again. We saw Dr. Carlson on a Saturday morning as he was the Cook Children's physician "on call" that morning. He was impatient with my three year old son and rude to me.
The staff was ok but the office itself is dreary. I would take my child to the ER before I take him to see this doctor again.
I've had other people mention that he was wonderful at one time. Well, that time has passed.
Dr Carlson was recommended by family friends when we had our first child. After our first couple visits we were so glad that we follwed their suggestion because he & Dr Nelson are both fantastic. Our oldest is nearing 5 and our second is 2 years old and they ADORE Dr Carlson. In fact, they get excited when told that we're going to see him.
When you first meet him you think that his amazingly nice demeanor has to be an act, but he is genuinely one of the sweetest and most caring people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Not only is he fantastic with children visiting his practice, but he also does mission trips throughout the year to provide care in less affluent countries. His nursing staff is just as sweet. Nurse Annie is our daughter's favorite.
The office is VERY kid friendly, with a TV, playhouse, and books in the waiting room to occupy your little one's attention while waiting and there are books/magazines in the exam rooms as well. We happily recommend Dr Carlson to anyone who is seeking a pediatrician.
Both Carlson and Nelson are wonderful doctors. The office is very kid friendly, very colorful. I also admire Carlson for his efforts in South America as a volunteer. I would recommend him and Nelson.
