We live in Gainesville, we have tried this restaurant on three different ocassions. The first time the people were really rude and the place was full of locals cracking jokes about other people. The food was cold and my husband said his burger tasted like they had run it over with a road machine. The second time the food was worse. Our table was disgusting and the silverware was dirty. This last time, we didn't even get to the food...we got up and left. We had a friend with us with a disability (Downs Syndrome) and the locals and the waitress were cracking jokes about him to the point where he cried. We will never ever eat there or recommend this place again.
I decided to try some fried pies for breakfast one morning, I have heard about the place but never tried it. I went early in the morning before my wife woke up, so I took our daughter. The "locals" there were rude, some of them loudly cracking jokes about Mr. Mom towards me. The lady at the register wasn't very friendly either, and it was upsetting that she was laughing along with some of the jokes at me. The fried pies were good, but I felt they were a little expensive. It is worth a try but hopefully there are friendlier patrons than I was faced with. I won't be going back.
The last time we visited (1:15 PM), the front blackboard advertised a lunch special until 2:00. After waiting a while for a table to be cleared, we tried to order it and were told that they had run out. Mind you, lunch is served from 11-2. They didn't seem to care too much that they ran out. The burger I ordered was small, smushed and greasy. The fries were cold. The other meal was not good either. The service was extremely lacking with a constantly empty tea glass. I complained about the lack of "special" food at the checkout stand. Then I went to the restroom. When I returned to pick up the pies I had ordered, they were talking about me in not too nice terms at the register. The fried pies are just OK, if you go for that kind of stuff. Pretty doughy & heavy for my taste. I have not been back.
Too bad. Gainesville needs a decent, hometown coffee shop that serves good food. Don't go here. You won't find it.
