If you love pizza... You'll loooooove this place..!!! Moved from Houston few years ago.. Friends kept telling us to try it and omg it was awesome... NONE compair to Poppa Roll's.. Has rewind me for any other pizza... Hope you like it too...
We had a large group (10) and our waitress made it very evident that we were an inconvenience to her from the moment we walked in and she seated us. It was a slow night and there was plenty of seating available, but rather than being pleasant she gave a loud sigh and said, "I GUESS I can seat you in the game room!"
Even the owner was rude (or else borderline senile). He came in and mumbled something about Nascar at the table, then started fiddling with the TV. My friend tried to talk to him about booking a baby shower there, since the menu had an ad saying banquet rooms could be booked for "any occasion." After blatantly ignoring her question the first time, she repeated it and he replied that, "[They] don't do baby showers." She explained, saying it would be more like a party since it was for couples and they would need pizza and beer for about 60 people. His response? Without even turning around, "Well, if it's gonna be like a party we MIGHT be able to arrange something for you." How rude! (She booked her shower elsewhere, btw.)
More complaints:
* After seating us in the "game room" with around 15 ridiculously outdated arcade games (only 4 of which worked), they never bothered to turn the main lights on; we sat in semi-darkness for our entire meal. Not to mention the A/C apparently didn't work in that section so it was almost 80 degrees.
* One of our party tried to order a pitcher of beer and was rudely denied until he explained that it wasn't just for him, he was going to share it with someone else. Our waitress then begrudgingly agreed to serve him his beer (excluding one child, our party ranged from 27-49 years old).
* I've dined at Poppa Rollo's many times and the food was always good, but not tonight. The sausage was cold and the grease had already congealed by the time our waitress delivered the pizza.
* I've worked in the service industry for almost 8 years and I am very considerate about how I ask for things. "When you get time, can you please . . . " or "May I please have . . ." are the only things out of my mouth, but my politeness was rewarded with a mild glare and a curt "OK, when I have time. I have another 10-top in the other room." Apparently we weren't as important as they were.
Waco is being taken over by chain restaurants and big-box stores. If locally-owned businesses like Poppa Rollo's don't put more effort into pleasing their clientele, they are going to become obsolete.
Go there for the piz...: Go there for the pizza. Its the best in town but you might have to wait 30 min to a hour just to get a set on a busy night. Treat you waiter respectfully and they will do the same to. Just don't complain if your pizza is taking to long. They hear it every every day.
