Order up front, some items (soup/salad) readily available as you order. Other items (dinners/sandwiches) are prepared and then brought to your table. Layout of the restaurant was a bit confusing at first, perhaps I was expecting sit down service because of the nice, cozy atmosphere. Eventually one of the employees noticed I looked lost and directed me to the register. No apparent dress code: most people are in casual wear. I was in shorts/tshirt when I visited. First impression when the food arrived was the relatively small size of the sandwich. I was used to the fast food chain sized sandwiches, such as Quiznos' own version. However, I found the meal to be satisfying. Roast beef was very good, and the hint of horseradish really added a nice kick. The pesto pasta side was also quite tasty. Overall, the restaurant is a nice cozy place, probably ideal for bringing a date. However, for the price, I did expect a bit larger sandwiches. I'll probably visit this place a couple more times to try out their other menu items, and for special occasions.

This was the west gray cafe. The food had been sitting quite a while, nothing fresh. This was just prior to the dinner hour. They had no crepes, no mushroom sauce for the chicken friand. The only item that seemed fresh was the complimentary bread and jam. The chocolat croissant was dry and hard. This was my first and last visit to La Madeline.....it was like burgerking reheated. Nothing fresh in the quality at all and the staff was standoffish at best. Too bad, I could have been a regular customer.
    BASQUE
I have no idea where this person went. I have been to several of the restaurants, the food is fresh and even what is heated has o been there for a long time. Portions are for humans and not for over wheigh trogoldites. The baking goods are the best in the city. Service is quick and efficient. Leans toward the European and it hard for some Americans acustomed to large portions of garbage.

It's got a French country feel, in some locations they have a fireplace which is relaxing. The bakery is just to die for. They have a mouth-watering selection, my fave is the Sacher Torte which is a choclate pastry with rasberry filling. The service is a cafeteria setting, where you walk through a line. I'm not big on having to carry your own tray especially in kitten heels, and the dining tables and chairs are a little too small and country for my taste, but otherwise it's great, and I love the lighting and the ambience! I also totally love to get a warm cup of tomato basil soup with a Chicken Friand which is puff pastry with minced chicken & creme of mushroom sauce drizzled on top with a hot cup of French coffee. High on Calories but oh so good! They also serve large sweet strawberries in a wine cup with a side of wine creme. I totally recommend it. Great place to go w/ your gal pals and just chit chat w/ your friends.
