| About: | Located in a small strip center, this red and white restaurant sticks out like a sore thumb. The inside walls are lined with sporting paraphernalia, enough to impress even the hard-core sports fan. Walk up to the counter and order, or you can sit in the back room if you prefer full service. Cajun food is the obvious specialty, and the gumbo, boudin, and seafood Po-Boys are all delicious. This is a great place to watch a game and eat crawfish without "shelling" out a lot of dough. |

Sorry to hear that others thought the quality had fallen off, or that the Mandola entry was a bad turn. Thaty was not my experience though. I found the red beans with sausage over rice and the shrimp etouffee over rice excellent, and the very cold Abita Amber paired nicely. It was worth the drive out from downtown (to the Richmond location near Weslayan).
the food was not as good as i remember. the red beans and gumbo were just ok, definitely not the worst i've had but the turn off was that the owners kids were running around and playing. while i love kids and it was a sunday evening, the clowning got to be unbearable when the owner let them get on the microphone and scream into it for several minutes(repeatedly).
having been in the restaurant industry for several years, i get the sense that this guy had lost site of the fact that the paying customers have made it possible for his kids to enjoy themselves but probably don't want to have them running in and out of the tables and screaming into the microphone. great food can handle those kind of annoying conditions but unless the kitchen was having an "off" day, the food won't keep me coming back, especially if the owner can't control his kids.
